Chris Beekhuis
President & Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Beekhuis has over 17 years software engineering.
Built and lead engineering team of 15, which delivered a 24x7, multi-tier e-commerce transaction financing engine and online loan application, integrated with several client sites including a Fortune 50 company.
David Lincoln
Managing Partner, DFJ Element
With more than 15 years of venture capital experience, David has been a leading investor in energy and other clean technology companies for over 22 years.
Prior to founding Element in 2005, David was a co-founder and Managing Director of EnerTech Capital Partners, a leading energy technology venture firm formed in 1996. Under his leadership, EnerTech managed over $290 million in two successive funds focused on energy and communications technologies. During his tenure there, David led 14 investment transactions and is considered to be one of the early pioneers in energy tech investing.
Prior to the formation of EnerTech, David founded and served as President and CEO of Deven Resources, Inc., a private equity firm dedicated to the acquisition and development of energy properties, which was successfully sold to a public oil and gas company. Previously, from 1984 to 1991 David was a partner with CMS Companies, a Philadelphia-based private equity and financial services firm. During his tenure at CMS, David was engaged in a variety of roles including the evaluation, acquisition and financing of over $200 million in private investment transactions on behalf of CMS and its clients. During this time, the company launched and grew its private equity business, investing in real estate, communications and venture capital investments totaling over $1 billion.
David began his career at UGI Corporation, a diversified energy and utility holding company, where he was engaged in both the regulated electric and the non-regulated energy divisions of UGI. While at UGI, David was dedicated to a wide range of strategic projects in corporate development and finance in each of the distinct divisions of the corporation.
David received a BA with honors in Geology from Colgate University (1978); and an MS in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania (1982.) Previous boards on which David has served include Capstone Turbine Corp., Catalytic Solutions, Inc., Comverge, Inc., Franklin Fuel Cells, Inc., FuelQuest, Inc., IntelliSource, Inc., Intellon Corp., Orcom Solutions, Inc. Sagemaker, Inc., and Sixth Dimension, Inc.
Timothy L. Newell
Managing Director, DFJ Element
Tim has more than 18 years of experience working at the intersection of emerging technologies and regulated industries. His current areas of investment focus include renewable energy, biofuels, energy efficiency, and market infrastructure.
Prior to Element, Tim founded Broadview Investments, an advisory firm specializing in companies pursuing investments in regulated industries. Tim was previously Chief Operating Officer of Olympius Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm; Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking for E*Offering, a technology investment bank launched in partnership with E*Trade and successfully sold in 2000; and a Principal of Robertson Stephens, a technology investment bank based in San Francisco. Tim has participated in the financing of more than 100 technology companies, and has served in a founder or advisory role to four start-up companies.
Prior to his investment career, Tim served in a number of senior positions in the U.S. government, most recently as a member of the White House staff of President Bill Clinton, where he was the Deputy Director for Policy in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Prior to his appointment to the White House staff, Tim served successively as Legislative Assistant, Legislative Director, and Washington Staff Director for then-U.S. Representative Norman Mineta.
Tim serves on the board of directors of Fat Spaniel Technologies, Inc., and has previously served on the boards of the California Clean Energy Fund, the Olympius Legends Funds and the founding Business Advisory Board of In-Q-Tel, the venture capital arm of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
Tim received his BA in Economics from Brown University.
Robert L. Puette
Director
CEO of Puette Capital Management, Inc. (PCMI), a management consulting firm and investment company. Prior to forming PCMI in 2004, Mr. Puette was a partner with WK Technology Fund, a venture capital firm. Between 1997 and 2000, Mr. Puette was President, CEO, and member of the Board of Directors of Centigram Communications Corporation, a communications technology firm. 1995 to 1997, Mr. Puette served as President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors at NetFRAME Systems, a high-availability computer server company. 1990 to 1993, Mr. Puette served as President of Apple USA, Apple Corporation. 1991 to 1999, Mr. Puette was a director of Cisco Systems. Prior to 1990, Mr. Puette served as a Group General Manager of Hewlett-Packard Corporation. He is also on the Board of several other corporations.
Mr. Puette holds a BSEE degree from Northwestern University and a MSOR degree from Stanford University.
Thomas J. Starrs
Director
Dr. Thomas J. ("Tom") Starrs is Vice President for Marketing and Sales for the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Prior to joining BEF, Tom was Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing and a member of the Board of Directors of RWE Schott Solar Inc., the world's fifth largest manufacturer of solar photovoltaic cells and modules. Tom also spent seven years as co-founder and principal of Kelso Starrs & Associates LLC, an energy consulting firm focusing on the design and implementation of policies and programs to support renewable energy development, with an emphasis on solar and wind energy. Tom serves on the Boards of the American Solar Energy Society (as Chairman), and the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies. Tom holds a Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley's Energy and Resources Group, and a law degree from U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law. |
